There is always risk associated with installing files that are downloaded from third-party websites rather than directly from the source. If you still can't get the Play Store to work, your best option is to factory reset your tablet and try again. Make sure you don't restore from a backup when setting up the tablet unless the backup was made before you installed the Play Store.
